The Gonghe (共和) photovoltaic–solar-thermal project in Qinghai (青海) recently connected to the grid and began generating electricity. Located in Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture (海南州共和县), it is described in the report as China’s first million-kilowatt-scale project combining these technologies.
Its 1 million kilowatts of total installed generation capacity consists of 900,000 kilowatts of photovoltaic generation and 100,000 kilowatts of molten-salt tower solar-thermal generation. The latter figure denotes generation capacity; the source does not disclose thermal-storage energy capacity or storage duration.
The report projects average annual electricity supplied to the grid of 2.2 billion kilowatt-hours, annual standard-coal savings of approximately 690,000 tonnes, and annual carbon-dioxide reductions of approximately 2.07 million tonnes. It also describes absorbing peak electricity for heat storage and supporting grid peak regulation, but supplies no operating results validating those projected annual benefits.
