The reported infrastructure total is 5.195 million fifth-generation mobile-network (5G) base stations at the end of August. Their 39.7% share refers to all mobile base stations, not geographic coverage, population coverage, or the share of subscribers using 5G.
The associated subscriber figures cover a broader mobile market. The three basic telecommunications operators and China Broadnet (中国广电) together reported 1.849 billion mobile-phone subscriptions, including 1.311 billion 5G mobile-phone subscriptions.
Mobile traffic and connected-device counts provide additional usage context. January–August mobile-internet traffic totaled 297.1 billion GB, up 17.3% year over year, while mobile-internet users reached 1.638 billion, a net increase of 28.58 million from the previous year-end.
Mobile Internet of Things (IoT) terminal subscriptions also increased. The three basic telecommunications operators reported 3.07 billion such subscriptions, up by 182 million from the previous year-end; these are connected-terminal counts, not additional human subscribers or cloud servers.
