The National Energy Administration (国家能源局) figures cover electricity-market transaction volumes for January–August 2026. Trading institutions completed 5.18 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh), up 19.2% year over year; this is traded electricity volume, not an installed-generation capacity figure or a data-center consumption total.
Within-province trading accounted for 4.0264 trillion kWh, increasing 21.5% year over year. Cross-province and cross-region trading totaled 1.1536 trillion kWh, up 12.1%.
The breakdown by transaction type separates medium- and long-term contracts from spot-market trading. Medium- and long-term transactions totaled 4.6173 trillion kWh, while spot transactions reached 562.7 billion kWh.
The report separately provides green-electricity and purchasing-agent figures. Green-electricity transactions reached 218.2 billion kWh, up 6.1%, and market-based electricity purchases made by grid companies on behalf of customers totaled 563.8 billion kWh; these separately reported categories should not be added to the national total.
