Vietnam’s third-quarter economic growth accelerated to 9.95% year over year. The report describes this as the fastest pace since the third quarter of 2022, above the 8.65% median forecast and the second quarter’s revised 8.81% growth.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments and actual disbursements grew at different rates. January–September commitments reached $50.4 billion, up 76.4%, with manufacturing and real estate among the main investment destinations; actual FDI disbursements increased 12.1%, so the commitment total should not be described as money already deployed.
September trade growth exceeded the reported forecasts. Exports increased 39.1% year over year against a 26.6% forecast, while imports rose 45.8% against a 38.1% forecast; September recorded a $1.27 billion trade surplus after deficits throughout the first eight months.
The government’s stated growth target remains separate from the quarterly result. It targets at least 10% growth for the year and high-income status by 2045, while September consumer price index (CPI) inflation was 5.08% year over year, slightly below the 5.10% forecast.
