Mexico approved six solar projects totaling nearly 650 MW of planned generating capacity, with battery storage and investment exceeding $750 million.

The announcement concerns project approvals, not commissioned power plants. Mexico’s Energy Ministry approved six new photovoltaic projects involving private partners. The ministry said they were expected to add nearly 650 megawatts of generating capacity to the country’s strained grid.

The investment and energy-production figures remain estimates. The ministry statement put expected investment above $750 million and projected annual generation at 1,881 gigawatt-hours. The 650 MW figure measures generating capacity, whereas 1,881 GWh measures expected electricity production over a year.

The projects originated in a renewable-energy tender. Private partners submitted them through the Federal Electricity Commission’s second renewable-project bidding round, and battery storage is included. The supplied report does not disclose storage power or energy capacity, project-level financing, locations, or commissioning schedules.
