OpenAI closed an initial $11 billion at a $1.25 trillion valuation; the full financing round could reach $20 billion.

The initial closing is distinct from the full fundraising target. Bloomberg reporting relayed by Financial_Express said approximately $11 billion had reached OpenAI’s accounts on Friday. The remaining financing was expected over subsequent weeks, with the total potentially reaching $20 billion; that larger amount was not reported as closed.
The fundraising plan was reduced from its original scale. OpenAI initially sought at least $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation, following the postponement of its initial public offering (IPO) plans. A separate update reported that the company had completed a $122 billion financing at an $852 billion valuation in March.
The reported investor group spans institutional and additional fundraising channels. Coatue Management and T. Rowe Price participated in the initial closing, while other investors identified for the round included SoftBank Group, Sequoia Capital, Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, and a United Arab Emirates investor consortium. OpenAI was also working with investment banks to raise money from high-net-worth individuals and retail investors.
Management separately reaffirmed its infrastructure plans. Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar said OpenAI would continue investing in data centers and working with hyperscale cloud providers despite the election results; she also said the company had confidentially filed for an IPO in June and was considering a 2027 listing. Her earlier financing discussion described $1.25 trillion as a pre-money valuation, while the closing reports did not specify that basis; the supplied material does not disclose security terms or dilution.
