SpaceX’s $40 billion NVIDIA-chip debt financing has conflicting completion accounts; final pricing remained under discussion despite Elon Musk’s closure claim.
· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 25, 2026 edition
Elon Musk said SpaceX had completed $40 billion in off-balance-sheet debt financing to purchase NVIDIA chips for its AI business. However, the supplied report also cites people familiar with the transaction saying final pricing remained under negotiation on Sunday and the transaction had not closed.
Musk attributed SpaceX’s financing position to its investment-grade credit rating and revenue from Starlink and rocket launches. These are statements attributed to Musk; the supplied material contains no financing agreement or rating-agency documentation independently establishing those terms.
In a separate message, Musk described the financing as primarily callable debt for graphics processing unit (GPU) purchases, saying it would come through in the first and second quarters rather than being a major factor in the current quarter. That short message does not specify the calendar year or provide an interest rate, maturity, collateral package, or drawdown conditions.
The report places the negotiations against recent investor scrutiny of highly leveraged neocloud providers, which sell high-end computing capacity to technology companies. Musk also said SpaceX would not acquire any neocloud providers; this is a statement of intention, not an acquisition transaction.
