The milestone concerns in-situ transmission research. China Electric Power Research Institute reported completion of conductor corona-effect tests at its 5,000-meter-elevation test site in Amdo, Tibet. Science and Technology Daily’s account was relayed on Telegram on October 18.
The testing produced several categories of electrical and environmental parameters. These included corona inception voltage, corona losses, audible noise, and radio interference. The report described the work as China’s first systematic acquisition of these parameters across the full altitude gradient from plains to 5,000 meters.
The reported contribution is a design-data improvement. The account says the tests addressed a longstanding lack of data for ultra-high-altitude power-engineering design. It does not announce a commissioned transmission line, additional transmission capacity, or a data-center power connection.
