Google Cloud Modernize launched with migration tools and Modernization Hub, supporting source-code analysis and dependency mapping for application modernization.

Google Cloud Modernize brings together Migration Center, Google Cloud VMware Engine, Google Cloud Mainframe Modernization, and a new EKS-to-GKE Migration Agent in one portfolio. The agent’s name refers to migration from Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service to Google Kubernetes Engine, while the broader portfolio covers infrastructure assessment, platform modernization, and application modernization.
The newly launched Modernization Hub provides an in-console experience for developers and architects to analyze source code and map dependencies. Google identifies Java, .NET, and mainframe applications as supported modernization areas.
Migration Center’s generally available Agentic Quick Estimator uses new Gemini capabilities to turn VMware inventory exports, including RVTools files, and infrastructure inputs into total cost of ownership (TCO) projections for Compute Engine. Its chat interface supports testing assumptions such as multi-region deployments and bring-your-own-license (BYOL) versus pay-as-you-go licensing; Google also offers a no-cost assessment through its Rapid Migration & Modernization Program (RaMP).
Beyond X5 and Z4, the same announcement lists the generally available M4N Series, providing 26.57 GiB of memory per virtual CPU paired with Hyperdisk Extreme. Google says this reduces the need to overprovision cores and can lower licensing costs by more than 20% for Oracle and other core-licensed databases; this is a vendor-stated benefit, not an independently verified customer result in the supplied material.
