TotalEnergies (道达尔能源) approved the Absheron (阿布歇隆) expansion, targeting 2029 startup and 6 billion cubic meters annually in field gas production.

The project has reached a final investment decision, according to the supplied reports. The approving parties are TotalEnergies, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), and XRG, the international energy investment company under Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). SOCAR and ADNOC are distinct companies; XRG is reported to hold a 30% project interest.

The production targets apply to the expanded field, not solely incremental output. A report relaying TotalEnergies’ statement says second-phase production at the offshore Caspian gas-and-condensate field is scheduled to begin in 2029, taking total field output to 6 billion cubic meters of gas annually and 47,000 barrels of condensate daily. A separate XRG report gives a gas target of 600 million cubic feet daily and an estimated 5 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas resources; these source-stated figures are retained without treating them as exact equivalents.

The expansion adds a stated export destination to the existing domestic-market role. TotalEnergies said the first phase has supplied Azerbaijan’s domestic market, while the expansion is intended to export gas to Turkey using existing infrastructure connecting Azerbaijan with European markets. The supplied reports disclose neither project capital expenditure nor financing terms, and the 2029 date remains a target rather than an operating result.
