China and the United States agreed to establish AI dialogue and incident-communication channels, with the next dialogue in November.

The agreement establishes two distinct AI communication mechanisms. According to the supplied report attributed to Xinhua (新华社), the countries agreed to establish a dialogue covering AI risks and benefits, with the next discussion scheduled for November 2026. They separately agreed to establish communication channels for AI incidents.
The commitments formed part of an eight-point account of the leaders’ meeting. The report places the agreement during President Xi Jinping’s (习近平) September 23–25 state visit to the United States. The broader account also included trade mechanisms and a separate proposed military memorandum on crisis communication and prevention; that military arrangement is distinct from the AI incident channels.
The two governments used different terminology in their accounts. A Telegram summary of a White House fact sheet calls the discussion a “superintelligence” dialogue and says the next meeting will occur no later than November. China’s Foreign Ministry subsequently said it respected the U.S. terminology and supported further exchanges, but the supplied reports do not specify incident-reporting thresholds, operating procedures, or participating agencies.
