The North-Central Kubuqi New Energy Base (库布其中北部新能源基地) topped out four indirect cooling towers for its supporting coal-power project; construction continues.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the September 26, 2026 edition

The completed milestone concerns four cooling-tower structures, not operating generating units. The report, attributed to information from China Three Gorges Corporation (三峡集团), says all four indirect cooling towers for the base’s supporting coal-power project have reached full height. Construction remains underway toward generating-unit commissioning.

The wider base includes several energy and transmission components. Wind, photovoltaic solar, solar-thermal generation, supporting energy storage, and ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission are being built concurrently. The source describes the project as the first 10-million-kilowatt-class base in China’s initial group of large wind-and-solar developments in desert, Gobi, and arid areas (沙戈荒).

The electricity-delivery figure is a full-completion projection. Once the entire base is completed, the report says it can deliver approximately 40 billion kilowatt-hours annually to the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region (京津冀). That figure is annual electrical energy, not instantaneous generating capacity, and the source does not identify a dedicated data-center customer or provide a completion date.
