Iran announced a Fars Province gas discovery exceeding 7.5 trillion cubic feet, including approximately 5.7 trillion cubic feet recoverable.

Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced a gas discovery in southern Fars Province containing more than 7.5 trillion cubic feet, equivalent to approximately 212.4 billion cubic meters. The announcement was made on August 23.

Paknejad said a recovery rate exceeding 72% would yield approximately 5.7 trillion cubic feet, or about 161.4 billion cubic meters, of recoverable gas. These figures were presented by the Iranian government and were not accompanied in the supplied sources by an independent reserve assessment.

The minister described the discovery as “sweet gas,” a characteristic he said would reduce development and extraction costs. He also said the discovery included a large volume of condensate, but no condensate quantity was provided.
