U.S. investment-grade companies had issued $145.2 billion of bonds in August through Aug. 17. That surpassed the previous August record of $136 billion set in 2020.

Alphabet’s $25 billion transaction was the principal contributor to the month’s issuance total. It was the eighth technology-company bond sale of at least $25 billion during 2026, according to the supplied report.

January, June, and July 2026 also set issuance records for their respective calendar months, while three other months registered the second-highest totals for those months. Issuers were seeking another combined $9.1 billion through 12 transactions on Aug. 17, including two transactions from private-credit funds.

The report also noted that investors had become more selective about securities and pricing, with a higher proportion of initial orders withdrawn during the preceding week. It did not state that the full $145.2 billion was raised specifically for AI infrastructure.
