Apple reduced some engineers’ daily AI usage budgets from $300 to $200 last month; employees can request executive exemptions.
· ComputeLabs Research · from the November 4, 2026 edition
The implemented reduction affects some engineers, not necessarily Apple’s entire workforce. The report says their daily AI usage allowance fell from $300 to $200 in October as part of broader cost controls. These are spending allowances, not disclosed token limits or measured daily consumption.
Further reductions were being considered rather than reported as implemented. Some engineering teams could face a $100 daily limit, while certain non-engineering teams already had a $100 cap that could be reduced to as little as $25. The report does not identify affected teams or give a company-wide implementation date for those additional changes.
Employees can seek exceptions from executives. This means the reported standard allowances are not necessarily absolute limits for every employee. The sources identify no AI vendors, models, aggregate savings, or changes to Apple’s own compute infrastructure.
