State Power Investment Corporation began Haiyang Phase III construction with the first concrete pour at Unit 5’s nuclear island.

State Power Investment Corporation announced on October 31 that the first concrete had been poured at Haiyang Unit 5’s nuclear island. The company identifies this as the start of construction for Phase III of the Haiyang nuclear-power project.

The site is in Haiyang, Shandong, and is planned across three phases comprising six million-kilowatt-class nuclear generating units. That description concerns the full site plan, not six units newly started or brought into operation on October 31.

Phase III comprises Units 5 and 6, using domestically localized third-generation advanced passive pressurized-water-reactor technology. The report calls it Shandong’s first nuclear project to begin construction during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, but supplies no completion date, exact unit rating, or data-center supply agreement.
