The transmission and substation ring was formally delivered at a ceremony in Melo, the capital of Uruguay’s Cerro Largo department, on October 30. China Machinery Engineering Corporation was the project contractor, and construction began in 2021.

The 500-kilovolt figure specifies the network’s voltage level, not its generating capacity or electricity-transfer volume. The supplied reports do not disclose route length, megawatt transfer capacity, project cost, or a dedicated connection to computing facilities.

At the ceremony, Andrea Cabrera, president of Uruguay’s national electricity company, said the project had improved local electricity infrastructure, national-system resilience, and transmission conditions. The reporting also identifies improved conditions for electricity exchanges with Argentina and Brazil, without quantifying additional cross-border flows.
