OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Terra, pricing its standard API at $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 26, 2026 edition

The reported launch focuses on computer operation, visual understanding, and coding. Described tasks include drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, completing forms, navigating applications, and editing video. OpenAI reportedly began rolling it out through ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users, as well as through the application programming interface (API).

Reported API pricing distinguishes ordinary input, cached input, and output. Charges are $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached-input tokens, and $5 per million output tokens. OpenAI says standard API pricing is 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol.

The reported performance figures come from internal testing, not independent evaluation. Computer-operation tasks were completed more than three times faster than the preceding generation; at the low reasoning setting, error rates fell from 53.6% to 16.7%. At the highest reasoning setting, errors were 4.3%, down 18 percentage points, while the reported coding-test score rose from the preceding generation’s published 21.5% to 50.3%.

OpenAI also reported capability classifications under its Preparedness Framework. It classified GPT-6.1 Terra as “Critical” for cybersecurity and “High” for biological and chemical capabilities. The supplied messages do not include the complete evaluation methodology, named benchmark details, or associated safeguards.
