· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 17, 2026 edition
The weekly decline accompanied renewed selling in AI-related technology stocks. The supplied CCTV report states that all three major U.S. stock indexes declined on October 16, with the Nasdaq 100 finishing the week down 5.5%.
Technology and communication services led the reported daily sector losses. They fell 2.54% and 2.45%, respectively, at the October 16 close. The Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index reached an intraday high of 22.31 and closed at 19.99, up 21.45% that day.
Separate reporting documented substantial selling of AI equities. A Securities China report said hedge funds were net sellers of global AI stocks for five consecutive trading sessions during October 8–14, erasing their cumulative net purchases since early 2025. It also reported that the 20 largest AI and semiconductor stocks by market capitalization had collectively lost more than $1 trillion in market value, without specifying the measurement window for that loss.
