OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 to paid ChatGPT tiers, with Free and Go access starting October 8.
· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 7, 2026 edition
The detailed rollout report distinguishes paid-tier access from the following day’s expansion. GPT-6 began rolling out globally on October 7 to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, with Free and Go access starting October 8. The paid tiers use GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna, with both optimized for everyday conversation.
The update is scoped to ChatGPT’s Chat tab. The supplied messages say GPT-6 replaces GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna in that experience. Models used by Work and Codex are unchanged by this release, so the announcement should not be described as a simultaneous replacement across every OpenAI product.
Intelligent UI adds interactive response formats. OpenAI says the model can answer with text, visuals, and interactive components, selecting a presentation based on the request. Examples include graphics, clickable buttons, forms, charts, and interactive experiences, while plain text remains an option when most useful.
OpenAI also reported safety evaluations and safeguards. It said GPT-6 incorporates Astra safety improvements addressing cyber, biological, and violence-related misuse, with stronger jailbreak resistance and less guardrail-evasion behavior. OpenAI reported that Sol and Luna meet its alignment-safety thresholds while receiving high-capability classifications in cybersecurity, biology, and chemistry under its preparedness framework; these are company assessments rather than independent validation.
