Microsoft introduced two distinct NVIDIA RTX Spark-powered systems. ServeTheHome describes the Surface Laptop Ultra and Surface RTX Spark Dev Box as Microsoft’s first two systems using the platform, aimed at developers and other professionals. The article places them within NVIDIA and Microsoft’s Arm ecosystem efforts; the laptop and development box are separate products, not data-center server or rack announcements.
The pricing differs by product and laptop configuration. Microsoft executives quoted in Telegram coverage gave starting prices of $2,599 for the laptop and $5,999 for the development box, with the most powerful laptop configuration reaching $5,899. The laptop also includes Magnetic Connect with magnetic USB-C charging, and executives said RTX Spark devices would begin shipping the following week.
The performance comparisons are Microsoft’s claims. Executives said the laptop returned responses from local models at twice the speed of a MacBook Pro M5 and generated video six times as quickly as a comparable Apple device. The supplied report provides no benchmark methodology or complete configurations, so these figures should not be read as independently verified, workload-wide performance advantages.
The launch also included hardware-and-software collaboration context. NVIDIA’s blog says Jensen Huang and Satya Nadella discussed co-engineering Windows hardware and software for AI agents at the San Francisco event. The ServeTheHome article carries an October 8 UTC timestamp, while the event coverage and NVIDIA post are dated October 7.
