Google, OpenAI and Anthropic reportedly plan the Standards Authority for Frontier AI, targeting a late-2026 or early-2027 launch.
· ComputeLabs Research · from the September 27, 2026 edition
Google, OpenAI and Anthropic were reportedly advancing plans for a new AI-safety standards organization, provisionally named the Standards Authority for Frontier AI (SAFA). Sources described it as an industry self-regulatory body intended to operate without government oversight.
The planned remit includes rules for model testing, auditing and incident reporting. The reported launch window was the end of 2026 or early 2027, rather than an announcement that the organization was already operating.
Members of the working group reportedly considered prominent candidates for the chief executive role and approached Sriram Krishnan. The report identifies Krishnan as a former venture capitalist and former senior AI-policy adviser in the Trump administration; it does not say that he accepted the position.
