The Commodity Futures Trading Commission extended review of CME’s NVIDIA GPU-rental futures by 45 days, through November 9.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the September 22, 2026 edition

Financial_Express reports that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) extended its review of CME Group’s proposed NVIDIA GPU-rental futures by 45 days, to November 9. The message attributes the decision to a letter dated September 21, rather than providing the regulatory letter itself.

CME had sought to introduce the contracts as early as the beginning of October. According to the report, that timetable cannot be met because regulatory review remains outstanding; November 9 is the extended review date, not an approved launch date.

The regulator reportedly cited “novel or complex” issues (新颖或复杂), sought additional industry input, and described the underlying market as fragmented and opaque (分散且不透明). The proposed products concern GPU-rental pricing—not NVIDIA shares or physical GPU purchases—and the supplied messages do not specify contract size, settlement methodology, or eligible GPU models.
