Astera Labs expanded its Leo memory-controller family with three solutions covering fabric-attached GPU memory, CPU-attached expansion, and pooled memory.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the November 3, 2026 edition

Astera Labs added Leo X-Series, Leo 2 E-Series, and Leo 2 P-Series to its Smart Memory Controller family. The company describes the expanded portfolio as covering direct fabric-attached GPU memory, CPU-attached memory expansion, and pooled-memory architectures.

Paired with Scorpio X-Series Fabric Switches, Leo X-Series enables fabric-attached memory for long-context inference workloads that make intensive use of the key-value (KV) cache. Astera Labs reported up to 62% faster time to first token and up to 22% more tokens per second, explicitly identifying these figures as results of its own internal testing.

The Leo 2 E-Series and P-Series support CPU-attached Double Data Rate 4 and 5 (DDR4 and DDR5) memory expansion, with PCIe 6 and Compute Express Link (CXL) 3.2 support. The release says they double memory bandwidth and capacity relative to the previous generation, but the supplied excerpt does not provide absolute bandwidth or capacity figures.

The OCP demonstrations included the Leo X-Series controller, the Scorpio X-Series 320-lane Smart Fabric Switch with Hypercast and In-Network Compute, and PCIe 7 copper and optical signal conditioning. The filed release establishes that Astera Labs disclosed these features and performance claims; it does not provide independent benchmark validation.
