Ocean Power Technologies and Stratum Holdings Corp. disclosed a nonbinding letter of intent for an offshore renewable-powered data-center demonstration. The press release is dated October 26 and was included in an SEC filing dated October 28; the filing establishes that the companies disclosed the proposal, not that the demonstration has been completed.
Under the contemplated definitive agreements, Ocean Power Technologies would provide prototype PowerBuoy assets already on hand and a limited, non-exclusive license to certain PowerBuoy patents. Stratum would provide GPU assets, including NVIDIA B300 GPUs, and integration expertise, and would pay Ocean Power Technologies a monthly retainer.
The proposed technical objective is to validate edge AI inference and related workloads powered primarily by onboard wave, wind, and solar generation, without a power umbilical to shore. This is a feasibility demonstration proposal, not a disclosed operating offshore GPU-cloud deployment.
Ocean Power Technologies reports more than 60 issued PowerBuoy-related patents worldwide, including more than 15 in the United States. The supplied filing excerpt does not disclose the retainer amount, GPU quantity, generation capacity, demonstration schedule, or executed definitive agreements.
