German nuclear operator PreussenElektra is working with NVIDIA to assess converting former nuclear-power sites into data centers; redevelopment remains under evaluation.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 22, 2026 edition

PreussenElektra GmbH said on Wednesday that it was working with NVIDIA to evaluate whether former nuclear-power sites could be converted into data centers. The report states that the company provided no further project details.

The assessment concerns reuse of former power-station land and infrastructure while reactor dismantling continues. It does not describe reactor restarts, a new nuclear-power supply agreement, or an operating data-center deployment.

The report identifies existing grid connections and substantial installed infrastructure as attractions of former generation sites. It separately notes that RWE and Uniper have identified former coal-power sites for potential sale; those are distinct redevelopment efforts, not confirmed participants in PreussenElektra’s NVIDIA assessment.
