Google made Gemini 3.5 Flash generally available within air-gapped Google Distributed Cloud, supporting multimodal processing without public-cloud connectivity.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 20, 2026 edition

Gemini 3.5 Flash is generally available in Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) air-gapped environments. Google describes support for reasoning, multimodal understanding, and long-context processing entirely within the customer’s disconnected boundary. The stated use cases include processing reports, imagery, and recordings for organizations subject to sovereignty, defense, intelligence, or critical-infrastructure requirements.

The related enterprise-search offering has a different release status. Managed retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) search with Gemini on GDC is in preview, not generally available, and Google identifies NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra acceleration for the offering. It runs without connections to the public internet or Google Cloud’s global infrastructure and provides source-cited answers with conversations that persist between sessions.

The search interface supports multiple document and media formats. These include PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, TXT, HTML, PNG, JPEG, WAV audio, and MP4 video. Each file can be up to 100 MB, with up to 500 MB per chat; users can summarize, compare, translate, and query information across formats and languages.

Access is integrated with the organization’s existing identity system. Administrators map application access to identity-provider groups, while each user’s chats and uploaded files remain private to that user. Google describes sign-in, file ingestion, response generation, and session storage as occurring on the organization’s air-gapped network.
