OpenAI upgraded GPT-6 Astra Pro in ChatGPT with parallel agents, progress tracking, and improved tool use, available to Pro users.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the October 16, 2026 edition

According to Telegram messages relaying an OpenAI announcement, GPT-6 Astra Pro in ChatGPT received faster responses and improved plugin and tool use. The feature is available to Pro subscribers in the Chat tab.

Multiple agents can now work in parallel on different parts of a task. Users can track each agent’s progress and open completed tasks to inspect the work produced.

Separately, OpenAI’s Codex product lead described optimizations to Codex and Work involving context reuse across subagents, longer-lived context caches, and improved request routing to increase cache-hit rates. Those comments describe related product optimizations, but the supplied messages do not establish that they are the implementation details behind Astra Pro’s ChatGPT upgrade.

No numerical response-time improvement, agent-concurrency limit, benchmark score, or application programming interface availability is supplied. The supported update is the reported product functionality and Pro-tier availability, rather than a quantified compute-efficiency result.
