Google announced general availability of Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar in Gemini Enterprise, following its initial preview at Google Cloud Next 2026. The release provides US and EU endpoints, provisioned throughput, and enterprise compliance and data-governance features, while Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking remains in private preview.
The system combines native speech-to-speech interaction with video avatars featuring synchronized lip movements for web, mobile, and interactive-kiosk applications. Google says it supports 97 spoken languages with automatic language detection and can recover from interruptions without dropping conversation context or backend transactions.
The model can execute tools and application programming interface (API) calls in the background while continuing the conversation. Its live visual-understanding capability processes camera feeds and screen shares alongside audio.
Customers can use curated, pre-built avatars, but custom-avatar creation remains restricted through enterprise allowlisting and verification. Google says all generated audio and video streams carry imperceptible SynthID watermarks; its demonstrations include custom-avatar creation from a reference photo and audio sample, and insurance-claims intake using live video.
