Anthropic signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion contract with Akamai (AKAM) for CPU compute, rather than GPU capacity.

· ComputeLabs Research · from the September 24, 2026 edition

According to Financial_Express, Anthropic signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion compute contract with Akamai Technologies, identified in the reporting by ticker AKAM. The agreement specifically covers central processing unit (CPU) compute—not graphics processing unit (GPU) capacity.

The transaction expands an existing relationship: the same report states that the companies reached a $1.8 billion compute agreement earlier this year. It does not specify whether the new contract incorporates or is entirely incremental to that earlier commitment, so the two amounts should not be added together.

The reporting describes renewed data-center demand for general-purpose CPUs used to support AI services, but provides no processor models, CPU counts, deployment locations, or delivery schedule. Akamai shares were reported to have risen more than 20% in after-hours trading; that market movement is separate from contract revenue recognition or delivered capacity.
