Google and Georgia Power signed a binding agreement covering Hatch and Vogtle nuclear uprates, pending regulatory approval.
· ComputeLabs Research · from the September 21, 2026 edition
Georgia Power and Google announced a binding agreement under which Google would subscribe to capacity from nuclear uprates at the Hatch and Vogtle plants. Financial_Express reports that the agreement remains subject to approval by the Georgia Public Service Commission.
A separate message says newly submitted commission documents explain how Google’s subscriptions to proposed or planned uprate projects would benefit customers. The stated scope is upgrades at the two named nuclear plants, rather than a disclosed agreement to construct a new nuclear station.
The report gives an expected customer benefit of approximately $900 million over the generating units’ lifetimes. That is a projected lifetime benefit—not annual savings, contract consideration, or a realized result—and the supplied material does not specify the uprates’ megawatt capacity, pricing, or completion dates.
