Data-center developer SB Energy reportedly postponed its September IPO after seeking a valuation of $50 billion or more.
· ComputeLabs Research · from the September 21, 2026 edition
Financial_Express, citing The New York Times and four people familiar with the transaction’s marketing, reports that SoftBank-backed SB Energy postponed its planned September initial public offering (IPO). Those sources said investors questioned the sought valuation of $50 billion or more, and banks had difficulty finding sufficient buyers within the desired price range.
The report describes SB Energy as a data-center construction and operating company and mentions its planned Ohio project. It characterizes that proposed development as the world’s largest data-center project, but supplies no capacity figures to substantiate the comparison; it remains a description of a plan, not an operating asset.
SB Energy’s supplied S-1/A excerpt separately discloses that its development strategy relies on inherently uncertain forecasts of AI-infrastructure demand. It also identifies risks from announced early-stage data-center supply, permitting restrictions, changing rack densities and cooling requirements, and rising equipment and construction costs; these are company risk disclosures, not established causes of the reported postponement.
