SK hynix identified Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture as a possible memory-fab location but emphasized that no investment decision has been made.

Reports said SK hynix was considering Miyagi Prefecture for a memory-chip manufacturing facility. The proposed project was described as potentially representing the South Korean chipmaker’s first major manufacturing investment in Japan.

The reported investment could reach tens of trillions of South Korean won, and industry sources said SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won had recently visited the region. These details came from media reports rather than an announced capital commitment.

SK hynix responded that any location with the necessary infrastructure could be considered as a candidate. The company explicitly said it had not made a decision, so Miyagi remains a potential site rather than a selected or approved fab location.
