Japan’s real GDP rose 0.3% quarter over quarter and 1.1% annualized, below respective forecasts. #
Japan’s real gross domestic product increased 0.3% quarter over quarter during April–June, below the poll estimate of 0.5%. The previous quarter-over-quarter reading was reported as 0.5%.
Annualized GDP growth was 1.1%, compared with a 2.0% forecast and a previous reading of 1.8%. External demand contributed 0.5 percentage point to GDP, exceeding the poll estimate of 0.3 percentage point.
Domestic demand reduced GDP growth by 0.2 percentage point during the quarter. Japan’s preliminary GDP deflator increased 2.6% year over year, versus a 2.3% forecast and the previous 3.2% reading.
The dollar was little changed following the GDP release. It was down 0.08% against the yen at ¥159.21 per dollar.
