Google Cloud and the State University of New York launched an AI and high-performance computing platform initially serving nine campuses.

Google Public Sector and the State University of New York (SUNY) announced the SUNY AI Platform, a secure AI and high-performance computing (HPC) environment built on Google Cloud with Gemini Enterprise. Initial availability covers nine of SUNY’s most research-intensive campuses, rather than the full university system.

The platform brings together storage, high-powered computing, Gemini Enterprise, and more than 200 AI models in a centralized environment. Google describes the shared foundation as supporting data analysis, collaboration across institutions, consistent governance, and responsible AI practices without requiring each team or campus to assemble the capabilities independently.

The announcement identifies research applications including weather prediction, water-quality detection, DNA sequencing for cancer treatments, and processing high-resolution brain scans to aid diagnosis. These are the research areas the platform supports, not reported scientific results attributable to the launch.

SUNY is also providing system-wide, no-cost access for students and faculty to Google’s self-paced AI credentials. Each course takes 5–10 hours and requires no prior experience; SUNY is separately working to embed Google Career Certificates into academic programs.
