Google Cloud made Spanner Omni generally available for deployment in on-premises data centers and other clouds.

Google Cloud made Spanner Omni, its deploy-anywhere version of Spanner, generally available for production workloads. Google says it provides the same core capabilities as managed Spanner while supporting deployment on customers’ own infrastructure and other clouds.

Supported environments described in the article include virtual machines, Kubernetes, private data centers, multi-cloud deployments, and local laptop testing. Google reports more than 2 million downloads since Spanner Omni’s debut at Google Cloud Next ’26; that is a download count, not a count of paying customers or production installations.

The database combines SQL, graph, key-value, full-text search, vector search, and analytical processing through a columnar engine. Its stated foundations include horizontal scalability, strong consistency, and atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability (ACID) compliance, while its vector-search features support k-nearest-neighbor (KNN) and approximate nearest-neighbor (ANN) search.

Google identifies London-based AI-native customer relationship management company Attio as a user of a containerized environment combining Spanner Omni and managed Spanner. Attio’s chief technology officer said the arrangement accelerated production delivery and supported mission-critical agent workflows, including Spanner queues, but the excerpt provides no quantified customer performance comparison.
