Jülich and eleQtron inaugurated the JION trapped-ion quantum computer, enabling hybrid workloads with Jülich supercomputers.

Forschungszentrum Jülich and Siegen-based startup eleQtron officially inaugurated JION, a trapped-ion quantum computer developed in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The source identifies JION as a quantum-computing system, distinct from Jülich’s conventional supercomputers.

JION will be made available to research institutions and industry through the Jülich Unified Infrastructure for Quantum Computing, or JUNIQ, user infrastructure. Its integration is intended to support hybrid computations that combine the quantum system with Jülich’s supercomputing resources.
